Summer 2024#26

This artwork is a striking visual tapestry composed of tightly packed vertical lines in vibrant, pulsating colours. The piece relies heavily on repetition and rhythm, creating a hypnotic effect reminiscent of woven textiles or digital glitch aesthetics. The dominant red background sets a warm, energetic foundation, while the insertion of alternating colours —such as bright yellow, electric blue, deep green, and black— injects a sense of movement and vibration throughout the composition.

Conceptually, the piece may evoke themes of repetition in daily life, the rhythms of nature or music, or even coded language. Its formal rigour is softened by the hand-drawn quality of the lines and the dynamic interplay of hues. Ultimately, this work is a celebration of pattern, colour, and the optical pleasures of abstraction.

About the art

Detail

Somsak plays with pattern and variation: although the vertical stripes follow a consistent format, the internal textures of each line differ, featuring zigzags, curves, dots, and broken segments. This technique keeps the viewer engaged, as no two lines are exactly the same, inviting close inspection and sustained attention.

Detail

Many of the circles are outlined or layered with grid-like or netted textures, adding depth and complexity to the piece. The visual complexity is heightened by the interplay of flatness and implied depth, with some colours seeming to advance while others recede.
